Update for September 15, 2008 thru September 22, 2008

September 23, 2008

Okay, I've been absent from blogging for several days again.  I just seem to stay so busy these days with work and extra-curricular activities.

Let me bring things up to date:

Monday - September 15 - I attended the Women's Luncheon at FBCJ.  Our speaker was Cyndi Grace.  She spoke on a topic entitled So, What Were You Expecting? out of John 11.  I got in some exercise time, so here are my pedometer readings:

25261 steps/11.93 miles

Tuesday -September 16 - was Evangelism Explosion's initial night of visits.  We were amazed and awed at how God was at work that night.

My pedometer readings:

25505 steps/12.05 miles

Wednesday - September 17 - that morning I attended the Grace Punch and Brunch - a kickoff for the semester's Grace Bible Study series.  The studies that are offered this semester are Stepping Up (Beth Moore) and God's Story (Anne Graham Lotz).  I opted to do the latter this semester and purchased the workbook for $13.  I didn't attend Wednesday Night Live because I was just too tired.

My pedometer readings:

25562 steps/12.07 miles

Thursday - September 18 - I returned to work.  Steve had an assignment for me:...

Update - August 30, 2008 thru September 14, 2008

September 14, 2008

As is obvious, it has been more than 2 weeks since I last made a blog entry.  For one thing, Hurricane Gustav and Hurricane Ike have paid visits to the Southeast area.  Here in Jackson we didn't have much difficulty - just rain and wind.

Pat had her aortic heart valve replacement and single bypass surgery.  She has done so incredibly well that she was released from the hospital yesterday (Saturday) - earlier than was originally projected.  She is at home and Bill finds himself in a role reversal - he's waiting on her instead of being waited on.

Evangelism Explosion has kicked off for the Fall 2008 semester.  I am participating.  I have also been attending the Live Well, Eat Well class on Wednesday nights.

LSU is now 2-0 after defeating Appalachian State, then having the game versus Troy postponed (till November 15) due to Hurricane Gustav, then defeating North Texas State last night.  They face Auburn next Saturday.

I have been been getting lots of exercise daily.   My weight is down - I am now 4 1/2 pounds from reaching my desired weight.

This is all for now - I'll try to write blog...

Update for August 21, 2008 - August 29, 2008

August 29, 2008

Good evening!  I haven't made any blog entries in a while.  I've been rather busy over the past week or so.  For one thing, we've learned that Pat (my sister-in-law) will have to have aortic valve replacement surgery and that she does have a blocked artery, so while they're doing the valve replacement, they'll take care of the artery at the same time.  The surgery is tentatively scheduled for next Friday - Sept. 5 - at "The Lake" in Baton Rouge.

Another thing is keeping track of Gustav - the tropical storm/hurricane that is projected to come ashore around Houma, Louisiana according to what I heard earlier this afternoon.  I think it may come in sometime on Tuesday.  All sorts of things are happening around here and down there with regard to preparing for Gustav.  And - that is why this surgery is tentative for next Friday - it's contingent on what happens with Gustav and what kind of havoc and damage he causes.

I went to the Eat Well, Live Well class on Wednesday night - and Christy had a panel type of setup.  I ate just a salad before going.  I took some notes but she didn't give...

Update for Wednesday, August 20, 2008

August 20, 2008

Good afternoon!  It's about 12:45 PM as I'm starting to make this entry.  Right now not much is going on.  I just got off the phone - Bill called me to ask if I could check the Internet to find out something about the Tigers.  He had heard something on TV but didn't get any additional details.  I went on the Baton Rouge newspaper/TV (combined) site and did some checking and found the information he was looking for.

Pat's doctor appointment is at 3:15 PM this afternoon so I'm hoping to hear some details before going into the class at Church.  It starts at 6:00 PM.  Right now I can walk over to the Church, as it's mostly cloudy, but we have a 50% chance of scattered thunderstorms today, so driving might be what I wind up doing.  If I end up driving, I will park in the CLC parking lot and then walk across via the elevated crosswalk to the Fellowship Hall to see what's on the menu and decide whether or not I want to eat supper.

I got up somewhat early this morning - around 6:45 AM - and after weighing in, took a shower and got...

Update for Tuesday, August 19, 2008

August 19, 2008

Good morning!  I got up this morning and weighed in - I'm holding steady at 124.8  pounds.   I think I might have hit a "plateau" and am stuck at that weight.  I've been trying to exercise as much as I can, but it doesn't seem like it's doing any good - I have been stuck at this weight since August 11th - and I'm frustrated by it.  At the same time, at least I'm managing to stay steady and not gain any weight!   I've done my Bible reading, done some walking, including prayer walking, this morning.
I saw Hulitt up here this morning and he explained to me what happened with the hot water yesterday.  He said that he was working in an apartment on the 5th floor and found a problem that, if he hadn't taken immediate action, would've flooded all the apartments below it.  He said that he didn't have time to inform Jean and wait for her to put up a notice about the problem.  So - when she told me she wasn't aware of a problem, she really wasn't.  She found out "after the fact".  I haven't been downstairs yet so I haven't let... Update for August 10, 2008 - August 18, 2008

August 18, 2008

I haven't made any entries in several days, so let me play "catch-up" here...

Monday, August 11, 2008

Sunday morning I got up and did my Bible reading and then went out in the hall and prayer walked - I spent a little over 30 minutes walking and racked up 2 miles.  Then, after weighing, taking a shower and eating break-fast, I headed off to Church.  I walked and took an umbrella with me - in the event I needed it.

After Worship, I went back to the Welcome Center.  I had asked earlier, but they didn't have the EE Luncheon tickets.  Stan made "a pitch" for EE at the end of Worship.  Well - someone had dropped off a package with the tickets and sign up sheet for the Luncheon to them in between times.  So, I picked up a ticket and signed up.

Then I headed on to Sunday School.  I learned that beginning next week Jim's class will be meeting in the Chapel Parlor on the 1st floor near Fellowship Hall West where the EE groups meet.  I shared with the class about my change in schedule.  At the end of the class Jim, prompted...

Update for Saturday, August 9, 2008

August 9, 2008

It's now 12:15 PM as I'm stopping in to begin writing to you today.  I got up this morning around 7:30 AM.  I went through my routine - daily Bible reading, weigh-in and then took a shower and had breakfast.  I went out and prayer walked for nearly an hour in the hallway and was over 2.5 miles by that time.  Then, I went down and out and walked some more outside.  I found that there was a Miskelly's Furniture delivery truck outside and also a delivery truck from an organization.  Apparently there will be more people moving in the building today.

I am now over the 5 mile point at this time; I'm certainly not through walking for today.  I also settled down on the couch for a while and finished reading Vulcan's Soul.  It's 755 pages in length, so it took awhile.  The book I have selected to read next is Conviction Without Compromise: Standing Strong in the Core Beliefs of the Christian Faith by Norman Geisler and Ron Rhodes.  I'm not sure when I'll begin reading it, however.

My cell phone charged back up overnight.  It now has a full charge.  I still haven't gotten a...

Update for Friday, August 8, 2008

August 8, 2008

I did a load of towels and underclothes this morning and I went walking - did a considerable amount of that.  I also went with Vicki down to Subway around lunchtime and we each got a wrap - I got a tuna wrap while Vicki got something, I forget what.  I brought my wrap back here to home while Vicki took hers back to her office.

Later I got the mail and went through it, then spent some time on the Internet and worked on reading Vulcan's Soul.  I have iced the knee and will turn in to bed momentarily.  I have put my cell phone on the charger as it's nearly out of battery power.

Goodnight!!

Update for Aug. 5 - Aug. 7, 2008

August 7, 2008

Tuesday, August 05, 2008

Well we have had some issues with equipment not working correctly and jobs running out of order this morning.  It's now 8:15 AM.  I just left Vicki a voice mail about going walking before it gets too much hotter.  We're supposed to be headed for a high of 95 today and a heat index of over 100.  Currently, though, it's 79 with a heat index of 82

I plan to officially take my lunch at 6:00 PM, but I will take a few minutes sometime before Bob leaves to go to his lunch at his Church and go eat something I brought with me.  I got a coupon from Del Monte for a "buy one get one free" to try their new Harvest Selections meals.  So I used the coupon.  This morning I brought the Beef & Vegetable Stew entrée.  I read food labels when I'm grocery shopping and I picked this one and another one (I forget which one) as they are low in carbs.  This entrée has 27 grams of carbs and 4 1/2 grams of dietary fiber so it has a net carb of 22 1/2 grams.

Purvis has gone off...

Update for July 28, 2008 thru Aug. 4, 2008

August 4, 2008

Monday, July 28, 2008

I walked considerably less tonight than I have in a while - the 16th was the last time that I walked less than 8 miles.  I just didn't feel up to walking anymore than that tonight.

This morning I faxed the cancellation letter to Esurance.  Problem is, it turned out to have failed.  I discovered that this evening and so I called and talked to a rep named Joan.  Well - unknown to me, Esurance charges a $50 fee to cancel a policy before the renewal date.  It's in the "fine print" of the terms and conditions of the policy.  Joan said that I should receive a refund - but she couldn't tell me how much and this $50 fee will be deducted from the amount of the refund.  I will be watching to make sure that they don't charge my debit card for another premium now that I have issued the cancellation request.

Well - today when I got to work this morning, I saw that Ryan's car was not in the parking lot yet.  I got in the Center behind Bob and asked him if he had heard from Ryan.  No - not yet. ...
